Published: Aug 4, 2020 16:09

On August 3, 202000 new cases were confirmed worldwide. As of 16:00 on August 4, there were a total of 18.28 million confirmed cases and more than 690000 deaths worldwide.

The overseas epidemic is becoming more and more serious. The US CDC predicts that 1000 people will die of COVID-19 every day in the United States in the next 30 days, and the number of COVID-19 deaths in the United States will reach 173000 by August 22nd. Brazilian Interior Minister Braga Neto tested positive for COVID-19 virus. India has added more than 50,000 cases in a single day for five consecutive days. The cumulative number of confirmed cases in Colombia reached 327000, surpassing the United Kingdom and Iran to become the ninth largest number of confirmed cases in the world.

Recently, the epidemic situation in Japan has obviously deteriorated. According to real-time data from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, as of 16:00 on August 4, COVID-19 in Japan had confirmed a total of 40149 cases, and Japan had added more than 1,000 cases in a single day for six consecutive days, far exceeding the speed of the epidemic in Japan from May to June, and also exceeding the number of new cases in a single day during the period of rapid spread of the epidemic in March to April. Judging from the cumulative trend of diagnosis in Japan, there are obvious signs of the second wave of outbreaks.

At present, many governments in Japan have tightened their epidemic prevention measures on their own:

Gifu Prefecture issued a "second wave of extraordinary events" declaration, Okinawa Prefecture raised the alert level from the existing level 2 to level 3, and issued an emergency declaration. Osaka asked downtown restaurants that provide alcohol to shorten business hours or close from August 6 to 20; Mitsubishi Prefecture issued a state of emergency, requiring county residents not to travel across regions from now on to August 16.

The novel coronavirus epidemic has dealt a huge blow to the Japanese economy. At present, the second outbreak of the epidemic has brought a new great test to the Japanese government and people. The contradictions within the Japanese government have been intensified around epidemic prevention and economy, and the effective prevention and control of this epidemic is facing resistance.
